Haiti
Common Ground is involved with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission's Neighbors Project in the village of Berger, Haiti. The Neighbors Project is about teaming up North Americans with Haitian communities. It’s a partnership where Haitians and North Americans share physical and spiritual resources, with the mutual goal of bringing people out of spiritual, physical, economic, and social poverty.
Simply put, it’s about loving our neighbors in the global Church in the same way we love our own churches.*

One Story from Haiti
"Ale! Ale Blanc!" The Haitian children in the village of Berger, Haiti were yelling at us to go, to leave them alone. That was a tough pill to swallow on our first day as missionaries in Berger. We wanted to help them, we were there to help improve their lives but they could care less if we weren't there giving them things. Over the next few weeks, we saw the families hesitantly open up to us and our interpreters as we went from house to house meeting with new friends and discovering the needs of the village. The mood shifted from hesitation to anticipation, families were excitedly awaiting our arrival the following day. Everyone wanted us to come speak with them, come sit on their porch and talk with them. It was fascinating to see how their hearts changed in just a short period of time. They trusted us, they finally started to understand why we were there. This all clicked when, as we were leaving the village for the last time, the children on the hill no longer shouted "ale, ale" to us, but "pita, pita" which means "see you later!"
That is why this partnership with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission and the Neighbors Project is so important! We've built bonds with these families and this village trusts in us that we will return. God has opened up this tremendous opportunity for us to do his work, he's made a path for Common Ground right there in Berger, so why not follow that path to something greater than most of us will ever experience? I encourage you to pray, and seek God's guidance on whether or not your next step, is Haiti. I'm sure glad I did. -Kelly Curtis
