What is First Supper?
First Supper is a weekly meal at Common Ground immediately following the worship service with the goal of building community, savoring the Lord's Supper, and looking forward to the day when we hunger and thirst no more as we sit with Jesus at his heavenly feast.
Who can come and eat?
First Supper is an expression of the hospitality and provision that has been shown to us. We feed because we have been fed. We give our water because our thirst has been quenched by God. If you have been provided for we ask that you share in providing for others. By feeding one another each of us participates in meeting each others’ needs.
God has also given us the joy of serving the poor among us. So who is First Supper for? "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without price." Isaiah 55:1
What can I do to help?
Each week everyone is responsible for just a part of the entire meal. This meal is an extension of the Lord's Supper with an invitation to all who are hungry, not just CG members, but anyone. We feel that an open table represents well the Jesus we serve who ate with sinners and prostitutes. We are Common Ground, for Common People, extending Common Grace to a broken world. Our goal is that this meal would not be thrown together, but a gift to each other. Every preparation makes for the entire gift. We’re not asking you to spend 5 hours in the kitchen, but a healthy balance of time and preparation shows a love to each other that you don't find anywhere else but with family and friends. Common Ground longs to be both.
